From London to Hong Kong, Miss Kaya interviews Charlotte Hollihan who launched her own business creating trendy blazers and jackets for the modern woman.
What inspired you to start your own business?
For me it was really about wanting to bring my product (my company specializes in jackets and blazers for women) to life. I felt that a lot of work-wear was very drab, and I saw the opportunity to bring a little fun and glamour back into the workplace.
How do you motivate yourself to get through the hardest days?
I don’t! Being an entrepreneur you work long hours and it’s hard to switch off sometimes. If I’m feeling very unmotivated, I take it as a sign to rest and just take a couple hours off to do something not work related. Usually it works and I come back refreshed. Of course, you can’t always take the time off, so if I have a busy day and I feel very unmotivated, I try to think about what first made me inspired to start my company, and listen to some motivating music or audiobooks. That usually does the trick to get me back into gear.
Who is your role model?
My style role model is Julia Engel from Gal Meets Glam, her style is so classic but in a very modern way. My other role model is probably someone like Chiara Ferragni. She has an e-commerce store (like me!) and I admire her for her fearlessness and positive attitude.
What makes you happy?
Working on my company and seeing it grow makes me happy as I do really enjoy my job (despite the tougher times). Outside of work, I love to read books, try new restaurants and learn new skills. Relaxing with a glass of wine and socializing with friends or family is also very important to me. It’s important to have that balance of being busy and having a full life, while also finding time to spend with family and friends. I think that’s the key to happiness for me: finding balance.
What are some of your life goals?
To build my company and expand its presence and recognition globally, to be a good friend and family member, to give back to society, and to travel the world.
How do you spend your days off work?
I live in Hong Kong at the moment so I love to go hiking or visit the beaches. I would be lying if I didn’t say I also love to go shopping in the malls. My favourite pastime though is to travel- I love to get out of the city and explore new places.
Do you have any advice for other female entrepreneurs?
Don’t take things or yourself so seriously. It’s important to care about your work and your job, but at the end of the day, being an entrepreneur should be a fun and rewarding experience. Sometimes it’s just better to let go, relax, and just enjoy the process, and to have a little fun while also building something great!
